After all family members have paid their respects, its time to let the non-family members come. I believe that these are all members of the calligraphy association that my grandfather belonged to. They are the ones that lobbied so hard for all of Taiwan's dignitaries to send eulogy banners. You can see the fruits of their effort on the wall in the background. During his lifetime, they also made it possible for him to have his artwork displayed at the National Palace Museum and published a book featuring his work as well.
The funeral hall was too small for everybody. When my father originally reserved the funeral hall, he never expected such an outpouring of support from this group. They waited patiently outside until the family members were finished with their part in the ceremony.
It's hard to tell from this angle, but I believe that the man in front is the one who was spearheading their efforts. He also gave so much to assist with the preparations. He runs a modest calligraphy school just outside Taipei. To help him continue the tradition, our family made a donation to his school after the funeral, in memory of my grandfather.
